Collective Identity Questions
1. Discuss your decision making process of which images, language, colours you chose to have on your collage.
I chose to put the things that I liked to do.
Dancing- Image of dancing shoes instantly recognisable as a ballet dancer. The awards show that I like dancing enough to do the exams.
Violin- image of violin is instantly recognisable and shows that I play the violin.
Films- These are pictures of some of the films I like and that I enjoy watching films.
Music- Images of the types of music that I enjoy.
Food- Image of types of food I enjoy.
Friends- Image of happy friends to represent that I like to hang out with my friends.
I have used simple text titles to help explain each section.
I didn't really think about the colour side of it.
2. Do you feel that the collage allowed you to express all aspects of your life and identity? For example: your age, gender, race, status, where you live, your lifestyle, interests/ hobbies, personal beliefs/ philosophies? Explain.
All I have put in are the main aspects of my life. With more time I could put in more images but I feel that I have captured the main aspects.
3. What did you deliberately choose not to place on your collage and why?
All the things I don't like.
4. How aware were you, when choosing key images, of how they might be received/ read? How far did this impact on your choices?
Every image was chosen to represent me in as simple a manner as possible. I thought about how I saw myself and not how other people saw me.
5. What comments did the group make that you agreed or disagreed with?
Few comment were made in the discussion.
6. If you were to do this exercise again, what would you change?
I might add some more images.
7. How ‘mediated’ do you feel your peers charts were? Explain. Because I don't know some of the people in class that well it was difficult to know which collage matched them,
however other people recognised them from their collage and so some people constructed and image of themselves better than others. For example when I saw Marks collage I knew it was his because I know Mark quite well and that his hobby is karting.
